Dr. Ning Liu, studied chemistry at Northeast Normal University, China, and obtained her Ph. D. in Inorganic Materials at the State Key Laboratory of Rare Earth Resource Utilization, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science in 2010. She joined the group of Prof. Schmuki at University of Erlangen-Nurenberg in 2010 as a postdoctoral fellow. Her research interests include the synthesis and modification of semiconductor nanomaterials and their application in various energy-related fields.
Metal filled TiO2 nanostructures are desired for various applications. Nevertheless, direct filling by electrodeposition is strongly hampered due to the electronic properties of TiO2. Here we present a novel deposition strategy where nearly 100% filling of TiO2 nanotubes with metals, including Ag, Cu, Au, and Pt, was achieved. The resulting fully functional, short-circuit-free interdigitated electrode configurations can, for example, be used to fabricate memristive electrodes.
