报告题目：Maximising citations for Chinese scientific publications: problems and solutions to demonstrating scientific novelty and significance

　　High investment and strategic policy making in research and research training have seen China reach the top rankings in numbers of scientific articles published in SCI journals in recent years, but the rankings for the important quality metric of citations per document remain low relative to other high achieving countries. This talk will consider a range of factors that may be contributing to low citation rate, and propose a factor with high explanatory power identified during our work over 14 years training CAS scientists and graduate students in the writing of scientific manuscripts for international journals in a wide range of fields.  We will discuss the current capacity to claim and justify novelty and significance of scientific results and provide a framework for improving article quality and citation rate at both the level of the individual article and the institutional level.
